Case Study – Home user replaces aging iMac with a bigger and better solution for less money!

Customer snapshot

The customer is a retired school teacher and her husband. They rely on their computer to connect them to their kids and keep them linked to the world

The need:

Their aging iMac was starting to slow.  Being an Intel based Mac it was about to be made obsolete and they wished for a new solution.

The challenges

The current iMac is 27inch and a screen of same size is required due to eyesight issues.

No such iMac now exists (largest is 24 inch so unsuitable).

Customer would prefer an upgradeable solution.

Budget would be £1200 max.

Our solution

Working with our customer we established the new Mac Mini was more powerful that the could ever need.  With technology moving on this paired with a new 32inch USB-C screen from LG would provide a more powerful, upgradeable, and high quality experience.  A Logitech camera was specced, configured and provided.

Implementation at a glance:

We sourced the Mac Mini locally in the central belt and were able to provide a £70 saving on MSRP.

We sourced the scren for end user , and had it delivered direct to their premises.

We configured the Mac Mini on our premise, making allowances for all the customers applications and home network.

We provided a clear concise setup guide, and talked the customer through this before ordering.

We delivered the configured Mac Mini and webcam via DHL.

We talked the customer through the plugging up of system and connection to their home network.

We remotely completed setup of their printer, and migrated all applications and files from existing iMac.

We remotely wiped, and set up blank their iMac, and assisting in advertising for resale.

Key wins / outcomes

The customer has now moved to a cutting edge M4 Mac mini which takes up less space and is way more poweful than what they had previousy

The screen sizes matches and excceed the quality of their previous iMac.

Customer can in future “upgrade” by simply swapping out the computer.

Webcam quality was commented as being far higher than before.

Entire bundle is cheaper than a brandn new iMac M4, whilst being more than £100 cheaper, whilst still delivering more capabilities.

Customer was able to mitgate part of the cost by reselling their existing iMac, meaning the net cost of upgrade after the expected £250 sale is under £900.

Customer quote:

We can’t get over the new Mac Mini being so small and yet so powerful.  Whilst we thought we’d just go for another 27 inch screen, David was happy to take us for a side by side comparison.  We are delighted that we got the recommended screen.  The whole process was painless, and there was no ask too silly, or no question too many. Faultless – we’re delighted with all this, for such a cheap price.  Selling our existing machine for a little bonus appeals to our desire to not waste.  Couldn’t recmmond gorilla.network service more.

Why would anyone buy Sky via dish in 2025

I’m astounded by the fact that so many people are stillll buying services such as Sky and feeling obliged to bolt an ugly big dish to the side of their houses. With FTTP fibre internet becoming near ubiquitous, there’s simply no need to lock yourself into a service. If you have a decent 100meg + service, the route to go is via App.

In recent years Now TV was always a tempting choice for the sports fan. Turn it on and off month by month. In the summer when the footballs not on, save yourself a packet. The issue holding it back was always reduced quality both in terms of sound and vision. All this has changed in recent months with the introduction of the new ultra boost packages.

So now you have two choices:

  1. Buy Sky Q/Stream – and be locked into an echo system where you have cables , dishes and are locked into multi year contacts.
  2. Buy NowTV, add the ultra boost , and for £35pcm(for Sky Sports) you have the same 4K, Atmos enabled service.

And what do you need to spend? Well any device that can run Now TV app, so SMART TV or such and you are off to the races. Even better – get yourself an Apple TV or Nvidia shield and allow hook up to sound systems etc. Want service in the kids bedroom- no bother, fire in a Smart TV or a fire stick. All this is legit, tested and incredibly simple.

Going away on holiday? – cancel the service for the month

Need to add a TV – no extra charge. It’s really win win.

Here at Gorilla.networks, our focus on improving your network underpins such options. We can have similar conversations about TNT Sports etc. It’s the world your way.
