🍏Apple Ecosystems for Beginners

From Tech Confusion to Apple Confidence — Personalised Setup & Training

The Challenge

Many homeowners know they want a simpler, more reliable tech experience — but aren’t sure where to start. Whether moving from Windows to Apple, upgrading outdated devices, or simply trying to get more from their technology, the process can feel overwhelming.

Questions around what to buy, how to set it up, and how everything works together often lead to hesitation — or worse, expensive purchases that never quite deliver.

What We Did

We designed a flexible, hands-on Apple conversion and training service tailored to each individual’s needs and confidence level.

Clients can choose from one-to-one sessions held at our dedicated training location, or opt for in-home support for a more personalised experience. For those who prefer a shared learning environment, we also offer small group sessions (2–6 people), creating a relaxed and supportive setting.

Using a range of Apple devices — including Mac laptops and desktops, iPads, iPhones, Apple Watch, and smart home equipment — clients can explore the ecosystem first-hand before making any decisions.

From there, we guide them through the full journey:

• Choosing the right devices for their needs

• Purchasing with confidence

• Setting everything up correctly

• Migrating data from existing systems

• Learning how to use macOS and iOS effectively

Training is delivered in a format that suits the client — from focused half-day bootcamps to structured programmes over several weeks (6, 8, or 12 weeks), allowing time to build real confidence.

We also support users beyond the basics, helping them discover the right apps, optimise their home setup, and ensure all devices work seamlessly together.

The Result

Clients move from uncertainty to confidence — not just owning Apple devices, but truly understanding how to use them.

Instead of frustration or underused technology, they gain a connected, intuitive setup that supports their daily life — whether that’s work, communication, organisation, or entertainment.

By the end of the process, everything simply works — and more importantly, makes sense.

🏡 Whole-Home Wi-Fi Without Wires, Mess or Disruption

The Challenge

After moving into a new home, the homeowner quickly discovered that the existing Wi-Fi setup simply wasn’t fit for purpose. The FTTP connection had been installed under the stairs — far from ideal for signal distribution — resulting in patchy coverage, frequent dropouts, and unreliable performance throughout the house.

Working from home made this more than just an inconvenience. Video calls on platforms like Microsoft Teams were regularly dropping, impacting day-to-day productivity.

To make things more challenging, the homeowner was clear: no drilling, no cabling, and no expensive, invasive install.

What We Did

We carried out a full site survey to understand how the Wi-Fi signal was behaving within the property and identify the most effective placement strategy.

Based on this, we designed a three-node mesh system using Amazon eero technology, leveraging the latest Wi-Fi 7 capabilities.

The primary access point was positioned alongside the existing router, with a second placed on the middle landing and a third satellite directly above it on the upper floor. This vertical alignment allowed us to maximise signal propagation between floors while keeping the install completely non-invasive.

By utilising Wi-Fi 7, we were able to create a high-performance wireless backhaul using dedicated, uncongested channels — ensuring that communication between access points remained fast and stable, without impacting user devices.

The Result

The homeowner now benefits from full-speed Wi-Fi throughout the entire property — achieving their full 500 Mbps connection in every room, on every floor, without a single cable being installed.

Video calls are now stable and uninterrupted, transforming the working-from-home experience. Beyond that, the improved coverage unlocked additional benefits — including the ability to reliably connect and update their electric vehicle via the home network, something that simply wasn’t possible before.

All of this was achieved with a clean, discreet setup that respected both the home and the homeowner’s budget.

🏙️ Seamless Streaming & Wired Performance in a Glasgow City Apartment

The Challenge

A city centre apartment owner in Glasgow was relying entirely on IPTV services for their entertainment — removing the need for a traditional aerial but placing much higher demands on their home network.

With multiple TVs and devices in use, a standard Wi-Fi setup wasn’t delivering the consistency or reliability needed for high-quality streaming. Buffering, dropouts, and variable performance were impacting what should have been a premium living experience.

What We Did

We designed a network built specifically for performance-led living. A structured Cat6 Ethernet cabling system was installed throughout the apartment, providing dedicated wired connections to every TV location — ensuring each device could operate at full speed without relying on wireless.

To support this, we installed a two-access-point wireless network using a Ubiquiti UniFi solution, delivering strong, consistent Wi-Fi coverage across the entire apartment for mobile devices and everyday use.

At the core of the system, we deployed a UniFi Dream Machine SE — enabling advanced network management and giving the homeowner the flexibility to run a dual internet setup. This allowed for a primary high-speed connection via Hyperoptic, alongside a backup FTTP line from Vodafone — ensuring continuous connectivity even in the event of an outage.

The network was also optimised to prioritise streaming traffic, ensuring IPTV services run smoothly even during peak usage.

The Result

Every TV in the apartment now benefits from a stable, high-speed wired connection — delivering uninterrupted 4K streaming with zero buffering. The wireless network provides seamless coverage throughout the space, supporting phones, tablets, and smart devices without compromise.

With dual internet capability in place, the home now benefits from an added layer of resilience — switching seamlessly between providers if needed. The result is a clean, modern setup that matches the quality of the apartment itself: no clutter, no aerials, and no performance issues — just fast, reliable connectivity at all times.

🌄 High-Performance Home & Garden Network in the Scottish Highlands

The Challenge

A couple renovating their home in the Highlands wanted to make full use of a newly built garden room — but with rural connectivity and distance from the main house, reliable internet access was a real concern. They needed a solution that would deliver fast, stable connectivity across both buildings without compromise.

What We Did

We worked closely with their electrician during the build phase to install a fibre link between the main house and the garden room — ensuring a robust, high-speed connection from day one. Media converters were deployed at either end, allowing the fibre connection to deliver full wired network performance seamlessly between the two buildings.

Inside the home, we designed and installed a three-access-point wireless network using a Ubiquiti UniFi solution, powered by a UniFi Gateway Ultra for secure and efficient network management.

A single, unified Wi-Fi network (SSID) was configured across all access points, enabling smooth roaming throughout the entire property — from inside the home right through to the garden room — without any manual switching or drop in connection.

Structured cabling was installed throughout the property to support strong, consistent performance in every room, while the garden room was fully equipped with a smart TV connected to the network — turning it into a true extension of the home.

To ensure long-term reliability, we also enabled remote management capabilities and designed the system to support a secondary internet connection via Starlink, providing a future-ready backup option in this rural location.

The Result

The homeowners now enjoy seamless, high-speed connectivity across both the main house and garden room — with no drop-offs or dead zones. Whether moving through the house or stepping out into the garden room, devices stay connected effortlessly thanks to the single Wi-Fi network and intelligent roaming.

The wired fibre link ensures maximum performance between buildings, while the smart TV and connected devices in the garden room operate flawlessly. With remote management in place and Starlink-ready resilience, the entire system is built not just for today — but for whatever comes next.

❤️ OAP CONNECT : Stay Connected to Loved Ones — Wherever You Are

The Challenge

For families living apart, staying connected with elderly relatives can be difficult — especially when technology becomes a barrier.

Video calls don’t connect, devices feel confusing, and when something stops working, it’s hard to fix from a distance. For many, this leads to frustration on both sides — and fewer meaningful moments shared between grandparents, children, and the wider family.

What We Did

We created our bespoke OAP Connect service — designed to remove the stress of technology for both the user and their family.

We begin by selecting the most suitable Apple device for the individual — whether that’s an iPad, iMac, or iPhone — based on ease of use, lifestyle, and comfort level.

From there, we handle the full setup and provide gentle, hands-on guidance to help them feel confident using features like FaceTime and other communication tools.

We also ensure their home has a reliable internet connection — whether that’s via landline broadband, FTTP, or cellular — so everything works exactly as it should.

Beyond setup, we remain on hand with ongoing support. If something isn’t working, we can assist remotely or visit in person as part of a monthly service — removing the need for family members to troubleshoot from afar.

The Result

Families can stay connected بسهولة and consistently — with video calls that just work, and devices that feel simple rather than stressful.

Grandparents can see their grandchildren grow, share moments in real time, and stay involved in everyday life — without being held back by technology.

And for relatives living further away, there’s complete peace of mind knowing that everything is set up properly, supported locally, and always within reach.

Why would anyone buy Sky via dish in 2025

I’m astounded by the fact that so many people are stillll buying services such as Sky and feeling obliged to bolt an ugly big dish to the side of their houses. With FTTP fibre internet becoming near ubiquitous, there’s simply no need to lock yourself into a service. If you have a decent 100meg + service, the route to go is via App.

In recent years Now TV was always a tempting choice for the sports fan. Turn it on and off month by month. In the summer when the footballs not on, save yourself a packet. The issue holding it back was always reduced quality both in terms of sound and vision. All this has changed in recent months with the introduction of the new ultra boost packages.

So now you have two choices:

  1. Buy Sky Q/Stream – and be locked into an echo system where you have cables , dishes and are locked into multi year contacts.
  2. Buy NowTV, add the ultra boost , and for £35pcm(for Sky Sports) you have the same 4K, Atmos enabled service.

And what do you need to spend? Well any device that can run Now TV app, so SMART TV or such and you are off to the races. Even better – get yourself an Apple TV or Nvidia shield and allow hook up to sound systems etc. Want service in the kids bedroom- no bother, fire in a Smart TV or a fire stick. All this is legit, tested and incredibly simple.

Going away on holiday? – cancel the service for the month

Need to add a TV – no extra charge. It’s really win win.

Here at Gorilla.networks, our focus on improving your network underpins such options. We can have similar conversations about TNT Sports etc. It’s the world your way.

The Problem with Wi-Fi (or not)

There is often a tendency for consumers to refer to their internet connection and their wifi connection as a single entity. Given the latest marketing promising “wifi garuntees” from the leading ISPs, nobody can blame them. This however is one of the leading causes of dis satisfaction for consumers.

The good news: the reality is that most home internet connections are incredibly reliable, the bad; poor wifi, and ISP provided routers tend to let down a good internet connection by providing spotty coverage and unreliable speeds.

The simple truth is that in a good many cases, it would be better to throw away your ISP provided router and instead fit separate wifi equipment to provide consistent coverage. Here at gorilla networks we can guide you through that journey.

What we do:

We’ll visit your property for a site survey. During this we’ll check your internet connection and ensure it’s working correctly.

We’ll understand your requirements of your home internet: do you want to stream 4K in every room, do you want to game on Xbox live, do you work from home?

From there we’ll provide you a range of options at different price points.

This may include: a recommendation on a better broadband provider.

A selection of wifi solutions, using wireless mesh or wired technologies

A pros and cons of each solution.

After the initial survey there is no obligation to use our services – but you’ll come away with a clear idea of where your issues stem from.

All this for only £59.99

Should you choose to have us provide further services, we can;

Assist in changing ISPs

Migrate your wifi and network devices to a new mesh network.

Assist in any enhancements- would you like a VPN to be able to access your home whilst away on the road? Would you like to centralise a printer? file server etc. We can also recommend tradesman should you want to add wired network connections to your home (good for TVs/ home offices etc).
